Winter tour 2025
En décembre, les rikishi partent sur les routes du Japon à la rencontre des fans. Au total, ils visiteront 22 villes à travers 17 préfectures réparties dans six régions de l’archipel.
In December, the rikishi set off on the roads of Japan to meet the fans. In total, they will visit 22 cities across 17 prefectures in six regions of the archipelago.

Je dois m’absenter entre dimanche 21 et mardi 23 décembre. Il n’y aura donc pas de résumé sur la finale de la tournée à Niiza-shi, Saitama. Je publierai l’analyse du banzuke de la nouvelle année à mon retour, mercredi 24.

Il y avait beaucoup d’animations pour cet avant-dernier jour de la tournée hivernale.
Shodai, qui a fait ses études en Tokyo, était la principale attraction samedi. Il a divertit les enfants avec Ichiyamamoto (photo) avant de présenter seul la démonstration du chignon.
Demain, le voyage de décembre se conclura à Niiza-shi en Saitama (moins d’une heure et demie de route vers le nord). Le groupe repartira ensuite vers la capitale nippone afin d’accueillir le banzuke lundi.

There was a lot of entertainment for this penultimate day of the winter tour.
Shodai, who studied in Tokyo, was the main attraction on Saturday. He played with the children alongside Ichiyamamoto (photo) before presenting the topknot demonstration alone.
Tomorrow, the December trip will conclude in Niiza-shi in Saitama (less than an hour and a half drive north). The group will then return to the Japanese capital to host the banzuke on Monday.

Vendredi, les rikishi ont intensifié un peu plus leur entraînement pour se préparer au tournoi de la nouvelle année.
Le Makushita 1 Kyokukaiyu a participé au Q&A aux côtés d’Onokatsu et Shonannoumi avant d’affronter Asahakuryu dans le torikumi.
Quelques fans ont pu aussi interagir avec Okinofuji, l’ancien Makushita n° 11 de Hakkaku-beya qui a pris sa retraite en mars 2025.
Demain, on sera à Machida-shi en Tokyo (moins d’une heure de route au nord-est).

On Friday, the rikishi stepped up their training a little more to prepare for the New year's tournament.
Makushita 1 Kyokukaiyu participated in the Q&A session alongside On-okatsu and Shonannoumi before facing Asahakuryu in the torikumi.
A few fans were also able to interact with Okinofuji, Hakkaku-beya's for-mer Makushita No. 11 who retired in March 2025.
Tomorrow, we'll be in Machida-shi in Tokyo (less than an hour's drive to the northeast).

Jeudi, le héros local Midorifuji était chargé de la démonstration du chignon avant qu’un nouveau duo apparaisse au shokkiri : Kototsubasa x Kazunofuji.
Le yokozuna Hoshoryu a dirigé le keiko matinal avec les ozeki, et Atamifuji a invité quelques élèves d’un club régional à l’affronter.
Demain, le groupe s’installera dans la dernière région visitée pendant cette tournée hivernale : le Kanto. La première ville est Odawara-shi en Kanagawa (moins de 2,5 heures de route au nord-est).

On Thursday, local hero Midorifuji oversaw the demonstration of the topknot before a new duo appeared at the shokkiri: Kototsubasa x Kazunofuji.
Yokozuna Hoshoryu led the morning keiko with both ozeki, and Atamifuji invited a few students from a regional club to compete against him.
Tomorrow, the group will settle in the last region visited during this Winter tour: Kanto. The first city is Odawara-shi in Kanagawa (less than 2,5 hours’ drive northeast).

S’il y avait un prix du public pendant les tournées, les enfants voteraient pour Ichiyamamoto, qui a mis toute son énergie (physique et vocale 🤣) pour les divertir depuis ces 3+ dernières semaines.
La bonne humeur était toujours au rendez-vous, on voyait même Tobizaru se transformer en messager des fans auprès de ses camarades pour avoir des autographes si les rikishi étaient loin des gradins.
On quitte ce soir la région du Kansai pour une halte "express" jeudi dans le Chubu, plus précisément à Iwata-shi, Shizuoka (approx. deux heures de route cers l’est).

If there was an audience award during the tours, the kids would vote for Ichiyamamoto, who has put all his energy (physical and vocal 🤣) into entertaining them for the past 3+ weeks.
The good mood was still there, we even saw Tobizaru turn into a mes-senger of the fans to his mates to get autographs if the rikishi were far from the seats.
We leave the Kansai region tonight for an "express" stop on Thursday in the Chubu one, more precisely in Iwata-shi, Shizuoka (approx. two hours’ drive to the east).

On a très peu d’informations sur les événements de mardi une fois encore…
Oho a présenté la démonstration du chignon, on a aussi pu observer un changement dans le yumitori-shiki avec Tatsuosho (Tatsunami-beya) qui a pris la relève dans le rôle du "danseur" de l’arc.
Au moment du dohyo-iri, tous les sekitori étaient réunis au fond du gymnase en petits groupes. Quelques fans en ont entendu certains comploter pour quelques farces 🙈.
Demain, c’est Sukzuka-shi, Mie qui accueillera le groupe (moins de trois heures de route à l’est).

We have very little information about Tuesday's events once again...
Oho presented the topknot demonstration, we could also observe a change in the yumitori-shiki with Tatsuosho (Tatsunami-beya) taking over in the role of the bow-twirler.
At the time of the dohyo-iri, all the sekitori were gathered at the back of the gymnasium in small groups. A few fans have heard some plotting a few pranks 🙈.
Tomorrow, Sukzuka-shi, Mie will welcome the group (less than three hours’ drive to the east).

Lundi, l’Association a choisi Asakoryu pour présenter la démonstration du chignon.
À quelques jours de la sortie du banzuke (lundi prochain), les rikishi semblaient très tendus mais aussi conservaient leur côté farceur, comme Oho qui s’amusait à frapper les épaules de ses camarades dans le couloir menant au dohyo 😁.
Plusieurs fans ont assisté à un moment qu’on ne voit pas forcément pendant les tournois : un tsukebito nettoyait le sable sur les kesho-mawashi d’Hoshoryu/Hiradoumi/Gonoyama pendant le do-hyo-iri du yokozuna.
Demain, direction le nord-est pour rejoindre Fukuchiyama-shi en Kyoto. Le groupe a approx 2,5 heures de route pour y arriver.

On Monday, the Association chose Asakoryu to present the topknot demonstration.
A few days before the release of the banzuke (next Monday), the rikishi seemed very tense but also kept their prankster side, like Oho who had fun hitting the shoulders of his mates in the corridor leading to dohyo 😁.
Several fans witnessed a moment that you don't see often during tournaments: a tsukebito was cleaning the sand settled on the kesho-mawashi of Hoshoryu/Hiradoumi/Gonoyama during the yoko-zuna's dohyo-iri.
Tomorrow, let's head northeast to reach Fukuchiyama-shi in Kyoto. The group has about 2,5 hours of driving to get there.

On a toujours très peu d’informations sur les événements de dimanche. Plusieurs personnes ont réussi à capturer l’arrivée du Kimura Shono-suke en taxi dans la matinée quelques minutes après les sekitori.
Sur le dohyo, on a pu voir Asahakoryu s’entraîner durement pendant le keiko (photo). Le Juryo n°2 veut profiter de cette tournée pour se mesurer aux Maegashira, une sorte de prévision pour le tournoi de janvier où il est certain d’être classé en Makuuchi.
Demain, on sera à Ura-shi, Nada. Le groupe a seulement une petite heure de route au sud-est pour y arriver.

We still have very little information about Sunday's events. Several peo-ple managed to capture the arrival by taxi of Kimura Shonosuke in the morning a few minutes after the sekitori.
On the dohyo, Asahakoryu could be seen training hard during the keiko (photo). The Juryo No. 2 wants to take advantage of this tour to measure himself against the Maegashira, a kind of preview for the January tournament where he is certain to be ranked in Makuuchi.
Tomorrow, we'll be in Ura-shi, Nada. The group only has a short hour's drive to the southeast to get there.

Samedi, Shodai appliquait toujours son rôle du clown en voulant faire barrière entre Mitakeumi et Ichiyamamoto. Ce dernier a d’ailleurs joué la comédie jusque dans son torikumi contre Abi😂.
La démonstration du chignon a été réalisée par Tobizaru peu avant celle de la corde blanche par Hoshoryu.
Demain, on retourne dans la région du Kansai pour l’étape de Higashiosaka-shi, Osaka. Il y a un peu plus de 2,5 heures de route au nord-est à parcourir.

On Saturday, Shodai was still playing the clown by wanting to create a barrier between Mitakeumi and Ichiyamamoto. The latter played the game even in his torikumi against Abi 😂.
The demonstration of the topknot was performed by Tobizaru shortly before Hoshoryu's white rope.
Tomorrow, we will return to the Kansai area for a stop in Higashiosa-ka-shi, Osaka. It's just over 2,5 hours of driving northeast to get there.

Le public a eu droit vendredi à une double démonstration du chignon grâce à Gonoyama et Asakoryu.
Quelques minutes plus tôt, Fujinokawa les accompagnait pour une séance de Q&A. On pouvait entendre quelques rires pendant cette acti-vité, et lorsqu’on se retournait on découvrait Wakamotoharu au micro ! 😂
Demain, le groupe quittera exceptionnellement la région du Kansai pour visiter celle du Shikoku en se rendant à Takamatsu-shi, Kagawa. Il faut un peu plus de deux heures de route au sud-est pour y arriver.

The public was treated to a double demonstration of the topknot on Friday thanks to Gonoyama and Asakoryu.
A few minutes earlier, Fujinokawa accompanied them for a Q&A session. You could hear a few laughs during this activity, and when you turned around you discovered Wakamotoharu on the microphone! 😂
Tomorrow, the group will leave the Kansai region to visit the Shikoku region by going to Takamatsu-shi, Kagawa. It takes a little more than two hours to drive southeast to get there.

La tournée a repris son format habituel jeudi 11 décembre après le petit tournoi d’Hiroshima hier.
En début de matinée, Aonishiki a été informé par son directeur Ajigawa-oyakata que l’Impératrice Masako l’a cité dans son discours d’anniversaire [NDLR, mardi 9-12, 62 ans] ! Il en est très surpris et honoré à la fois.
Le héros local Otsuji (Makushita 2, 2-5 en novembre) a rejoint exceptionnellement le groupe aujourd'hui, il avait un match contre Daiseizan.
Demain, le groupe se rendra à Amagasaki-shi, toujours en Hyogo. Il y a approx. une heure de route vers l’est.

The tour resumed its usual format on Thursday, December 11 after the small tournament in Hiroshima yesterday.
In the early morning, Aonishiki was informed by his director Ajigawa-oyakata that Empress Masako had quoted him in her birthday speech [Editor’s note, Tuesday 9-12, 62 years old]! He’s both very surprised and honored.
Local hero Otsuji (Makushita 2, 2-5 in November) joined the group exceptionally today, he had a match against Daiseizan.
Tomorrow, the group will travel to Amagasaki-shi in the same prefecture of Hyogo. There is approx. an hour's drive east to get there.

A small tournament was organized with the sixteen Makuuchi wrestlers, the final was the “classico” Kotozakura x Hoshoryu (photo).
Tomorrow, we will be in the Kansai area for the performance in Kakogawa-shi, Hyogo. The group has just under 3,5 hours’ drive east to get there.

On change de région mardi pour un court périple en Chugoku. Aujourd’hui, la démonstration du chignon était assurée par Sadanoumi.
Quelques fans ont fait savoir leur "mécontentement" à l’annonce des retraits de Tamawashi et Himukamaru (grippe). On ignore réellement pourquoi le vétéran sort - il a l’habitude de partir en plein milieu des tournées, sans doute est-ce là le secret de sa longévité sur le dohyo 🤔 ?
Demain, l’action se tiendra à Hiroshima-shi dans la préfecture éponyme. Le groupe a approx. 2,5 heures de route au nord-est pour y arriver.

We're changing regions on Tuesday for a short trip to Chugoku. Today, the demonstration of the topknot was provided by Sadanoumi.
Some fans expressed their “dissatisfaction” with the announcement of the withdrawals of Tamawashi and Himukamaru (flu). We don’t really know why the veteran left - he’s used to quit in the middle of the tours, is this the secret of his longevity on the dohyo 🤔?
Tomorrow, the action will be held in Hiroshima-shi in the eponymous prefecture. The group has approx. 2,5 hours’ drive northeast to get there.

Le programme ne change pas beaucoup depuis le début de la tournée, seuls les matchs varient à l’exception de la san’yaku.
Plusieurs fans ont pu approcher les sekitori pendant la pause déjeuner, comme Tobizaru sur un stand de ramen (photo) ou Atamifuji attiré par l’odeur des crêpes. En fin de journée, Kamito était de retour pour le yumitori-shiki.
Demain, le groupe visitera une nouvelle région, Chugoku, en se rendant à Shimonoseki-shi, Yamaguchi (moins de trois heures de route au sud).

The program has not changed much since the beginning of the tour, only the bouts vary except for the san'yaku.
Several fans were able to approach the sekitori during the lunch break, such as Tobizaru at a ramen stand (photo) or Atamifuji attracted by the smell of pancakes. By the end of the day, Kamito was back for the yumitori-shiki.
Tomorrow, the group will visit a new region, Chugoku, on their way to Shimonoseki-shi, Yamaguchi (less than three hours’ drive south).

Dimanche, Kotoshoho était sélectionné pour la démonstration du chignon. Shodai a continué son rôle du clown pendant la session avec les enfants : "Plus de sel ! Plus loin !"
Kirishima était lui aussi le farceur du jour, en tentant de repousser Atamifuji en dehors de la zone au moment du dohyo-iri.
Demain, ce sera la dernière étape du groupe dans la région de Kyushu : Minamiaso-mura en Kumamoto (approx. 1,5 heure de route au sud-est).

On Sunday, Kotoshoho was selected for the topknot demonstration. Shodai continued his role as the clown during the session with the children: “More salt! Further!”
Kirishima was also the prankster of the day, trying to push Atamifuji out of the area at the time of the dohyo-iri.
Tomorrow will be the last stop of the group in the Kyushu area: Minamiaso-mura in Kumamoto (approx. 1,5 hours’ drive to the southeast).

Samedi, les spectateurs ont pu voir que Shodai et Yoshinofuji portaient un mawashi à l’effigie du groupe scolaire local (ils sont originaires de la préfecture de Kumamoto).
Les deux hommes ont animé un entraînement avec les enfants, sous le regard toujours aussi amusé d’Ichiyamamoto. Atamifuji a ensuite présenté la démonstration du chignon.
Demain, on retourne en Fukuoka où le groupe visitera la ville de Kurume-shi (approx. une heure de route au nord).

Fujiseiun fête vendredi son vingt-huitième anniversaire, et pour l’occasion le Juryo 1 devait confronter la majeure partie des sekitori pendant le keiko matinal.
Pendant le shokkiri, quelques fans ont pu côtoyer Atamifuji venu regarder son camarade Kazunofuji jouer la comédie contre Asaazuma.
Demain, le groupe visitera Kikuyo-machi, un bourg de Kikuchi en Kumamoto (approx. deux heures de route au sud-ouest).

Fujiseiun celebrates its twenty-eighth birthday on Friday, and for the occasion the Juryo 1 was battling most of the sekitori during the morning keiko.
During the shokkiri, a few fans were able to chat with Atamifuji who came to watch his stablemate Kazunofuji act against Asaazuma.
Tomorrow, the group will visit Kikuyo-machi (a Kikuchi district) in Kumamoto, they have approx. two hours’ drive to the southwest.

Jeudi 4 décembre, quelques personnes ont été témoins de la "bestialité" de Tamawashi qui s’amusait à mordre ses camarades dans les couloirs en attendant son torikumi contre Oshoma 😂.
Au moment du dohyo-iri, Abi était lui aussi farceur en essayant sans cesse de faire tomber Churanoumi de la structure sous le regard amusé de Kinbozan… Pour le yumitori-shiki, Kamito a laissé sa place à Kototsubasa.
Demain, le groupe se rendra à Oita-shi, dans la préfecture éponyme. Il leur faut un peu plus de 2,5 heures de retour vers le nord pour y parvenir.

On Thursday, December 4, a few people witnessed the "bestiality" of Tamawashi who had fun biting his mates in the corridors while waiting for his torikumi against Oshoma 😂.

On a très peu d’informations sur les événements de mardi.
Ce matin, Hoshoryu a dirigé l’entraînement en faisant une vingtaine de duels contre plusieurs Maegashira (15-8), mais il n’est pas encore très regardant sur ses scores : "On est là pour se préparer physiquement, les résultats seront importants plus tard".
S’il n’y a pas eu la démonstration des chignons, les spectateurs ont pu se régaler devant le shokkiri (comédie) et les jinku (chants). Au moment du torikumi, on a pu voir le Makushita 22 Kurohimeyama associé à Himukamaru.
Demain, direction Yukuashi-shi dans la même préfecture de Fukuoka. Le groupe n’a qu’une petite 1,5 heure de route vers l’est pour y arriver.

Pour cette première journée de décembre, le local Hiradoumi était à l’honneur. Après avoir démontré le tressage de son chignon avec Sadanoumi, l’ancien komusubi a été appelé par Hoshoryu pendant le keiko.
Sous les yeux de sa mère, il n’a remporté que deux des cinq duels contre le yokozuna, mais ses efforts étaient très productifs. Il veut oublier son score "minable" 4-11 du tournoi d’hiver afin de commencer 2026 sur une nouvelle base plus solide.
De son côté, le Grand champion considère que la préparation du Hatsu basho (11 > 25 janvier) démarre aujourd’hui. Il souhaite beaucoup travailler sur sa défense afin d’éviter les erreurs commises pendant la dernière compétition, notamment celle qui lui a coûté le championnat contre Aonishiki.
Le groupe se rendra demain à Itoshima-shi en Fukuoka (approx. 1,5 heure de route au nord-est).

For this first day of December, the local hero Hiradoumi was in the spotlight. After demonstrating his topknot tying with Sadanoumi, the former komusubi was called by Hoshoryu during the keiko.
Under his mother's eyes, he won only two of the five duels against the yokozuna, but his efforts were very productive. He wants to forget his "miserable" 4-11 score of the Winter tournament to start 2026 on a new, stronger foundation.
For his part, the Grand champion considers that the preparation of the Hatsu basho (January 11 > 25) starts today. He wants to work a lot on his defense to avoid the mistakes made during the last competition, especially the one that cost him the championship against Aonishiki.
The group will travel tomorrow to Itoshima-shi in Fukuoka (approx. 1.5 hours’ drive northeast).

Les rikishi entament aujourd’hui la tournée d’hiver.
Parmi les animations, Hoshoryu a présenté le nouage de sa corde blanche avant son dohyo-iri aux côtés de Hiradoumi et Gonoyama.
Le Makushita 9 Kamito a pu monter exceptionnellement en Juryo pour un match contre Himukamaru. Il reviendra en fin de journée pour le yumitori-shiki. Le gymnase affichait complet pour voir le nouvel ozeki Aonishiki en action, il était associé à Oho dans le torikumi.
Demain, on reste dans la même préfecture pour partir à Sasebo (approx. une heure de route au nord-ouest).

The rikishi are starting the Winter tour today. Among the animations, Hoshoryu presented the knotting of his white rope before his dohyo-iri alongside Hiradoumi and Gonoyama.
Makushita 9 Kamito was exceptionally able to move up to Juryo for a match against Himukamaru. He would return at the end of the day for the yumitori-shiki. The gym was full to see the new ozeki Aonishiki in action, he was paired with Oho in the torikumi.
